Amnesty International released its authoritative Annual Report today on human rights issues worldwide.

The Amnesty International Report documents human rights abuses in 150 countries around the world up to the end of 2005. It highlights the need for governments, the international community, armed groups and others in positions of power or influence to take responsibility.

The Report once again cites Canada for its failure to resolve the Lubicon Lake Indian Nation dispute. It says:

"There were no further negotiations with the Lubicon Cree in Alberta. In November the UN Human Rights Committee called on Canada to make every effort to resolve the long-standing land dispute, to consult with the Lubicon before licensing any economic exploitation of the disputed lands, and to ensure that the human rights of the Lubicon are not jeopardized by such activities."

The full report on Canada can be found here.
